Cookies Policy

Last updated: 16 May 2026

This page lists the cookies that the 8waterfront website (www.8waterfront.co.uk) uses, and what each one does.

What's a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit. Some are strictly necessary for a website to function. Others remember your settings or measure how a website is used. Some — which this site doesn't use — track you across the web for advertising.

What we use

We try to use as few cookies as possible. As of the date above, the only situations in which cookies are set are:

1. When you log in as an administrator

If you're the site owner logging in to the booking admin area, our database provider Supabase sets a small session cookie so we don't have to log you in on every page. Once you log out, the cookie is cleared. Standard guests never see this cookie.

2. When the embedded Google map loads

The interactive Google map at the bottom of the homepage and on the local-area page is embedded from Google Maps. Google sets one or more cookies when the map loads — these belong to Google, not to us, and they're used to remember your map preferences (for example, whether you're signed in to a Google account). We don't control these cookies and we don't read them. You can read Google's policy at policies.google.com.

If you'd rather not load Google's cookies, you can block third-party cookies in your browser settings — the map will still load as a static image, you just won't be able to interact with it.

3. When you view the tide times page

The tide times page embeds a small live tide widget from TideTimes.org.uk, who provide the UK Hydrographic Office tide predictions for Sheerness (the nearest gauge to us). Their widget may set its own cookies to remember your preferences. We don't control those cookies and we don't read them. You can read their policy at tidetimes.org.uk/cookies.

4. When you view the weather page

The weather pageembeds a wind & rain map from Windy.com. Windy's embedded maps are designed to be cookieless — per their documentation, the embed “does not use cookies or any other way of tracking users”. The Met Office, BBC and Tides.today links on the same page are deep links; they only set their own cookies if you actually click through and visit their sites.

What we don't use

For full transparency, the website does not use any of the following:

  • Advertising or remarketing cookies
  • Cross-site tracking pixels
  • Session-replay or heatmap recording
  • Third-party analytics that require cookies (we use Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and uses an anonymised daily hash of your IP and browser instead)

Managing your cookies

All modern browsers let you block, allow, or delete cookies via their settings. The exact steps depend on the browser — search “manage cookies in [your browser]” for instructions.

Blocking cookies on this site won't stop you browsing or making a booking. The only thing that may not work the same is the embedded Google map.
